Honestly I had never been a huge M-Audio fan either, for no other reason than I perceived their stuff to be entry-level "prosumer" quality at best. However, after having (4) of their 828mkII's, one 896HD and one of their MIDI interfaces die on me, I'm not what you'd call a fan at this point -) I used to be a MOTU guy myself (I've owned at least one of everything they've made). I've had an M-Audio FW 1814 in the past and it was pretty nice. I'm in the market for a new audio interface (currently having a MOTU 828 mkII connected to an Alesis AI3 for a total of 16 channels )Īnd I would like to "upgrade" to an M-Audio ProFire2626 or to an RME FireFace 800 - and then add another Alesis AI3 (since they both support two ADAT connections), for a total of 24 channelsīudget is a concern, so if I can get decent quality with the 2626 for +/_ $600, as opposed to the FF800's 1000-1600, I'd be very interested. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't hear any appreciable differences - in fact, the M-Audio seems to have an ever-so-slightly wider stereo image!?! The kicker: I'm sitting here doing some level-matched critical listening, switching between this box and my RME Fireface 800 ($400 vs. The real icing on the cake is that you can configure the master out knob to control all 8 analog outputs - surround volume control anyone?!? I even like the fact that the TRS outputs are secured to the back panel with locking nuts - this thing is made to survive. and this this thing delivers on all fronts. M-Audio has come a LONG way - this thing sounds every bit as good as some much higher-end (i.e.

So I just got one of these installed and based on first impressions, I'm seriously, uh, impressed.
